I found this rhyming set of verses encapsulates all that those of us who have experienced breakups go through. Only the last line seems to indicate something different, at least from my perspective, of what kinds of emotions drive us at the end.
The deaths of relationships are so much harder to bear, I think, because the one you've broken from takes a part of you with them that you will never recover. They change you on elemental levels. Yet, they also pave the way for new, perhaps more rewarding, relationships. Life is an endless cycle of coming and going and give and take. Nicely written.
I often challenge the phrase: Better to have loved and lost than to never loved at all." My personal experience, as well as objective listening to many actors tell of their lost love through classroom exercises, I've come to the conclusion that love is such a volatile/delicate emotion we're hard wired for, it's difficult to avoid the stats: more sad ending than positive, lasting dedications to another mate, parents, siblings, God and even country. This is not to demean your writing, for know writing about loss is one of the best antidotes for the debilitation the accompanying sadness and many times, guilt, can have on one. I wish you well in your future dealings with love, for I know it can work (after 3 marriages, I've finally found a woman I've been with for 12 years and have realized nothing but the positive aspects of love. For me, the secret is "respect" for one another, and leaving behind any "agendas"...and especially the paper prison call marriage. This is one of your best poems.
"The hurt that we have spent", Cant agree more, but don't you think most of us have gone thru some kind of heart break or the other , the more innocent we are, it could be worst...JK
