Poem Artwork

when the train goes by
I can hear the rumble from a distance
the strong impact of the wheels as
they thrust upon the tracks
and a feeling of stillness
overwhelms my mind and soul

I recall as a little girl
standing in my grandmother's garden
watching the train come closer
and nearer, longing for that kaboose
just so I could wave at the engineers

I often wonder if I'm
not just waiting
for that kaboose
to wave a little hello
for the rest of my days...

Dedicated to those who keep searching for a purpose in the midst of change.
