When we look in the mirror
And don't see what's there
And can't see the wrinkles
Or gray in our hair~
When we can't see in others
A long, pleading glance
For someone to help them
And give them a chance~
When we fail to see suffering
Here in our midst
And don't see the person
We've just hugged and kissed;
When we've hidden our faults
And our feelings from view
And done it so well
That we've fooled ourselves, too~
Solitaire is our game-
And it bears repeating,
At solitaire, it's ourselves
We've been cheating.
