The dustmen come today,
They’ll haul your things away,
I won’t need them anymore
So I’m leaving them outside the door
For when the dustmen come today,
They’ll take away your promises,
The ones you couldn’t keep,
They’ll take away your memory
That won’t let me sleep
When the dustmen come today,
They’ll carry off my cares and woe,
I should have thrown them out so long ago,
Why I didn’t I’ll never know
But the dustmen come today,
I’ve missed their round so many times
But I’m clearing out my heart and mind
Of all the things you left behind,
For when the dustmen come today,
They’ll need a truck, the biggest yet
To hold the heartaches and regrets,
The happy times I must forget,
When the dustmen come today,
My heart and mind will be so clean,
As good as new, almost pristine,
Almost as though you’d never been,
When the dustmen come today,
The memory of your face is there,
The way you smiled and said you cared,
That trust and love I thought we shared,
For when the dustmen come today,
When the dustmen come I’ll be so glad,
The pain and sorrow that I had
I’ve thrown into a plastic bag
For when the dustmen come today
