This is just a little song / poem I have written, to see if I could write something
from the womans point of view,
the inspiration behind this story was
Gloria Gaynors, "I will survive"
I hope you like it.
Julie Ann Regrets
My rich uncle on the coast has died,
And left me all his money and I
Ain’t looking for no-one to share it with,
You had your chance so long ago,
But you blew it honey, it’s true you know,
And I am not the kind that can forgive.
Do you remember when I worked three jobs,
While you stayed home like a lazy hog,
Yet never once did you hear me complain,
Then you up and left me with two small kids,
Don’t try to explain it, I know what you did,
But you’re never gonna’ hurt this girl again.
Because you’ve been gone for three long years,
And I’ve fixed my heart and I’ve dried my tears,
And I haven’t even told the kids your name,
Now don’t look at me like I’ve done something wrong,
When you know it was your fault all along,
And if you don’t get it, then please let me explain.
Miss Julie Ann regrets that she,
Is not the fool she used to be,
And your sultry looks don’t thrill me quite so much,
So when you come knocking at my door,
When you’re not welcome anymore,
Saying how we aught to stay in touch.
You say you want me back, now that’s a joke,
Well could it be because you’re stony broke,
And your new love left you for a younger guy?
Well Miss Julie Ann regrets again,
That you seem to think that she’s insane,
But you can’t fool me now, don’t even try.
You’ve got more chance of skiing in Hell,
Than you ever have of getting back to this girl,
And that’s the Gods own truth, don’t you forget,
Because I’ve found a man and we’re getting wed.
Don’t look surprised, you heard what I said,
And that'll be the last time Julie Ann regrets.
The children love him and so do I,
He’s loving and funny and a real nice guy,
In fact everything that I hoped you would be,
Now don’t try to look sad, because it’s just an act,
And it ain’t gonna work and that’s a fact,
So I think that’s it about time that you leave.
So get out of here now, or I’m telling you this,
I’m gonna stop talking and start using my fists,
Because I’ve been in training since the day you left,
Now I may not win but even if I lose,
I’m gonna give just as much to you,
And it won’t be only, Julie Ann Regrets.
The title. While the song seems a bit long for the soundbites and repetition people seem to like, it has a real deep down country message that I think country rock bands would like. Now, all is left is put some guitar strings to it.
Eh . . . Worked for me, Steve. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and yep, looks like some country singer, or even a rock band could take this and work it into one of their albums, and who knows(?) it may become a single and off the charts. I wish that for you.
