In a Coil

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Thursday, April 27, 2023

In the moonlight reflecting a distant dream
Watch it slip away with a silent scream

All the sweet aches and the sweet pain
that cannot wash away, they still remain

The heart in turmoil, the soul in a coil

The body that crave so sweet
the mind that is set on retreat

They do not mix and mingle
as they are each a single
shard of the parts that spin
to create this turmoil within

The image of the coil serves well as a symbol of what is sometimes going within us, in the mind, heart, soul, in deal with the things we are confronted with. As you wrote: "The body that craves so sweet // the mind that is set on retreat."
