Ancient Arts

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Tuesday, August 1, 2023

Time has come to leave the past behind
to air out dust from wounded mind

Some things will stay so it can act
as lessons for tomorrow
warding off sorrow

Reminders of why wounds appeared
to keep you away from tears
keep you away from fears

A heart can only take so much
they say, I disagree
to find love, bears
its untimely fee

For that we are well equipped
when sorrow cash in its chip

Until love will find your heart
and leave you defenseless
against its ancient art

Yes! I agree. Love is a treasure for sure but it can be a complicated process. Love, peace, and best wishes to you, Elisabeth.

The most intriguing is the ancient art of falling in love. When you're in love nothing else really matters.

Great poem, Elisabeth!

I find the poem uplifting except on the last stanza where I'm confused about the meaning of the words, ancient arts.
