The last sweet thing I see

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

Dreams and fairytales
rainbows end-sales

How I wish my dreams were true
my heart still reaching out for you

But you are a figment of imaginatiom
I can't make nothing of this sensation

That my soul was made for you
my heart seems to think its true

It doesn't listen to reason
just says love is in season

Hold on and don't you let it go
my treacherous heart tells me so

To see you is torture so sweet
to make my heart skip a beat

I can't help that I feel powerless
soft and meek I must confess

This, my longing for a dream come true
I want to reach out, give myself to you

I want to spare none of the love in my heart
until the day comes that we must finally part

When death takes its final toll from you and me
I want your face to be the last sweet thing I see

Let us hope that we all stay together long enough for that final goodbye.
