From the Ashes Risen

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

You know that saying? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also think this is true in any written text: the meaning and the beauty of these words is in the mind of the reader. I would like for my words to create solace, joy and perhaps strength in the reader. In doing so I sometimes need to go from darkness to light in my written word. Because how would you know the light if you haven't known the darkness?

Poem Artwork

I am a puddle of tears
a stream into a river
of woe

A soul in turmoil
a wreckage of a life
in chaos

I am darkness feeding
the glue of remorse
my prison

Past, present and future
to me, myself and I
the cry

This prison cell I've made
keep my soul in chains
so strong

Picking splinters one by one
from my weary mind
away

The pain sharp and true
is my motley crew
a friend

To reflect upon my ways
what led me here
my fear

I drink the bitter poison
drop by drop by drop
it's sting

I am scarred and blue
inside out made by you
my love

A scared shadow
of what once was
so true

Slowly rising from the ashes
Phoenix made of flames
so strong

Brick by brick rebuilding
the temple of the sun
the shine

Steadfast in my mission
to regain all the joy
the gold

Reawaken my soul
reconnecting threads
to see

Universal connection
the whole world in me
again

Floating in the sea of joy
the many seeds to sow
for love

True and pure aspiration
hidden stars in the world
to hold

So rise now child of pain
the many roads behind
you're free

You will still feel anguish
but never again drown
in its waves

Strong as metal forged
in flames of doom
indestructible

Piece of art alive
your time to thrive
is now
