The lonely waitress

A girl who lives in my home town (Poseyville, IN) worked for a while as a waitress at the local restaurant and she's had her share of blows in the last few years. There was a time last year when I was going through a case of the blues about the same time she was. Even with this, I have to be thankful that I haven't gone through what she has.

I see her everyday,

taking orders in the diner.

She scurries about,

her voice racing

and hiding the tragedy

that saddens her current days.

She's like so many others

who pour our coffee

and fetch our meals.

forever we've known her,

sassy and silly,

giggly and pouty.

But the tears are there,

courtesy of someone

she thought would always love her

and sent her flowers.

A broken heart aggravated

by a car out of control

on a frozen night.

An old friend who's there

one day and gone the next.

I'm older, yet I seem to know

the sorrow in her heart at times.

Why does loneliness

seem to bridge the gaps?

Some people does not know sometimes how much pain there is hidden deep within you. I know i had more that my share of it...but does it ever end? When a woman losses her child or her friend, but has the face and smile to hide it well ,it's sometimes a blessing and a safe place to go, laugh till you cry and blame your tears on the joke you see around you unfold!! before insanity takes over your spirit!!
Been there done that myself....I can say a pro in pretending to be brave!!

Is it lonliness or do we suffer when our heart identifies with the pain in others' eye? I'm that way because I have a heart born of genuine love. I know the meaning and I share it as much as I borrow it.
I like the tenderness in which you carried this girl from word to word.
Thank you for her and your heart.
