I don't know how to really describe this poem. I'm a sportswriter for a weekly newspaper and as such, find myself working on the weekends in general and Sundays in particular. One Sunday, I happened to have passed a semi-trailer truck and these were the thughts that went through my head.


So many times,


I've traveled this road


So many times


I've seen them roll by.


 


My cathedral again


is my car radio


on my  battlefield


another day, another dollar.


 


As i travel along on my ttasks,


I stop and watch as


an 18-wheeled bread billboard


lumbers past.


 


Strange, as I watched it pass by,


I wondered as it chugged on


in the other direction,


is he just as tired and blue as I?


Is he earning his bread


by the sweat of his borw


on the day of rest?
