I wrote this directly after a flash flood destroyed my Alstead, NH neighberhood. As I sat in a strangers unfriendly cottage, numbly staring at a lake, a loon called to my aching heart. . .
I was blessed to spend quite a few summer nights in a cabin on a lake in Maine. Waking up in the middle of the night to their magical sound is something I will never forget.
The place in Maine where I go now is back in the forest- but coyotes are just as amazing to me with their howls. Nature heals like nothing else.

You are so right that releasing our pain is key to embracing our future with hope and light.
Crazy as the loon, huh Poetess...how nature can take it away all so fast. The loon is a haunting creature with an eerie call, one that sounds like a wolf at times and then a tremolo pitch...could have been an omen. The loons are the main characters in my novel The Buckskin Skirt Oar Traveler. They are beautiful with red eyes naturally. It's a healing poem, and I hope you are healing...Blessed Be.
