I wrote these lyrics in 2003, about my ritual of Lighting prayer candles for loved ones on Christmas day. I lost my mother the day before Christmas in 1977, but she has remained an important part of every Christmas since then. This poem was published in 2003 and 2005.
Light a Candle
by The Poetess (SRP)
Light a candle for my brother
Who died one summer day.
Light a candle for my mother
Who guides and lights his way.
Light a candle for my sisters,
Brother's and my dad.
Light a candle for the memories
That made us all so sad.
Lets let it out.
Lets shed a tear -
Lets bring Love into
Christmas this year.
Very meaningful write about the need to let go and to hang on. The power of poetry to remember! Thanks for opening your heart up, Poetess.

Yes, so true, writing my Christmas cards was bittersweet, so many Aunts and Uncles and loved ones no longer here, but yes they are in spirit and I will light a candle too..Merry Christmas

Touching poem, and makes me think... if the oil of our candle represents the spirits of dearly departed, then our light shines brighter for our losses. Keep those candles burning, Poetess, and we'll all find that we are keeping more than merely a memory alive. Peace and joy be with you this Christmas season and throughout the years to come.
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.

This does have a sad undertone, but mostly it makes me feel hopeful. Beautifully written. Hugs,
