My Mum passed away on January 11, and this just came to me.

Although my body’s tired and weak

And death is very near

Don’t be afraid for me

The futures very clear

God lent me to this earth

To do what I should do

And I have proved my worth

By giving birth to you

Now you must carry on

From where I finished off

You must carry on my son

In spite of those who scoff

For there is only one right way

A road you must follow

Start on that road today

For I’ll be gone tomorrow

But I’ll be watching from above

For now and evermore

Watching with undying love

Til’ we meet at Heaven’s door.

Hi Tony,
I am just a reader on authors den, so sometimes I just scan through looking at all different kinds of poetry or short stories. There is some amazing talent on this site, and you should really be proud of your work here. This poem about your mum is soooo beautiful! It sounds like it came straight from your heart and you are missing her very much. I really can't express how this poem has affected me, I lost my mother in 1999 and this is exactly what I would have liked to have written myself. Your pen is truly laced with truth and emotions. You should really be proud of this work, I am sure your mum would be. Beautiful, just truly beautiful!!
