On Becoming a Human
I began life as a mirror.
Things went in and out of it without any pain.
It was just a blur
of meaningless information filling a blank canvas.
I didn't bother
with remembering anything until repeating events
forced me to retain and take into account
anything that happened more than once.
Then once upon a time I began paying attention
to good strokes and bad and weighing the advantages
of one over the other.
That's when I started becoming a human.
