STRESSED WORDS

Observation of people stressed

People are stressed

their reactions display it

their words may say it,

complex it can be

for a victim to observe

his eyes see it

his ears hear it.

He sits on a seat

in a carriage of a train

been shopping he's tired

he sighs leans back.

Twenty minutes pass

another station arrives

people board

seats they search and find,

they seem peeved as the pause

right by the man

'That seat is reserved its ours'

they exclaim.

Shocked he gathers his thoughts

appologises

as he gathers his things

looks around a half empty carriage,

'Can we sit there then.'

they ask as if urgent

though their voices sound

like they had been wronged.

he stands up to change his seat

actually sittingt just sit opposite,

but they are not amused

look at his as if he were sitting in the nude

starring at him as he smiles

face to face as the train moves.

What had driven their stress

tied up in their words

made them seem so angry

if not rude,

why do we explode

let these stressed words escape

allow them to corrode

our mental state,

cause us to be

who we would rather not

then after we say them

feel ashamed that we did

then try to dismiss it

but the stress still lives.

You have clearly pointed out something that Alvin Toffler described 50 years ago as "future shock." Just the complexity of daily living takes its toll with constant change and technology (supposedly for convenience) crowding in on everyone with easy things becoming more and more difficult to accomplish. We have a tendency to vent all that frustration in anger.

Add to it the insidious movement of wealth from most citizens to the rich resulting in a lot of un-and under employment that brings people to financial desperation that is vented in anger as well. Angry people often select angry leaders to guide them.
