Aliveness, in the fullest meaning, is not merely existing,
having life, not dead or lifeless.

aware and alert'
During the Korean War I served in the military. During basic training I was informed by my trainers that there
are two kinds of soldiers: "an alert one or a dead one."
I chose to be the alert one.
In subsequent years I have relished this principle
and it has served me well.
Like many things, aliveness is a choice. It is choosing
to be positive, excited about life, aware of the beauty
that is outside and within one's being.
Nothing underpins and catapult aliveness like joy.
When there is joy even if pleasure and happiness
are missing aliveness reigns triumphantly. Aliveness is the state of consciousness that calibrates good feelings.
To everyone and everything the person possessed
with aliveness the message conveyed is:
"Damnit, I feel!" "I feel good!"
My here and now is: "Aliveness!" "I am alive!"
Certainly a rousing poem with more of a message than most.
I wake up every day eager to get to work and to do all I can before I go to bed dead tired at night. It's the only way to live. When I get to the point where I can do it anymore. Then I certainly hope that I will die quickly and not be a burden to those around me for my inability to be alive and lively.
