Goodbye gal, I'm on my way to Memphis.
I'm headin' down that lonesome road again.
Sometimes all this travelin' seems so senseless
and I think about the type of fool I've been.
Then I recall all the things that lie ahead,
the stars and bars and good ol' country soul.
And it's really not the money, though it keeps me fed.
It's all the kids who come to rock and roll.

Well, if your brother Billy's home,
tell him to bring his saxophone.
The sun's gonna shine in Tennessee tonight.
'Cause Johnny B. Goode's comin'
and there's gonna be some strummin'.
We're gonna play some rock and roll tonight.

I suppose you're wonderin' why I left you this way.
Well, there's no use thinkin' about what might have been.
I just felt that it was time to make my getaway
and I won't be passin' by this way again.
All my buddies, they'll be countin' on me
to be there when they walk upon the stage.
And though you were a part of my life story,
to me girl, you were just another page.

But if your brother Billy's home,
tell him to bring his saxophone.
The sun's gonna shine in Tennessee tonight.
'Cause Johnny B. Goode's comin'
and there's gonna be some strummin'.
We're gonna play some rock and roll tonight.

Another night, another show, another town.
Try to understand that's just my style.
I don't know if I'll ever stop and settle down
but if I do, it won't be for a while.
Please understand when you wake up and find me gone
that I really didn't mean to make you cry.
Music is my life. It keeps me movin' on.
When the sun comes up, it's time to say goodbye.

But if your brother Billy's home,
tell him to bring his saxophone.
The sun's gonna shine in Tennessee tonight.
'Cause Johnny B. Goode's comin'
and there's gonna be some strummin'.
We're gonna play some rock and roll tonight.

Just A Little Rock And Roll Band

When you go to the concert hall
Or to your favorite bar
You'll see us up here on the stage
And you'll wonder who we are.
We're the guys who came to play
So you could have some fun.
You know we'll do our best for you
But we can't please everyone.

Oh - oh. We're just a little rock and roll band
Trying to reach the top.
Sometimes it seems so far away
But I know we'll never stop.
We'll never stop.

Always doing charities,
We rarely make a dime.
Churches and parties and talent shows,
They're just a waste of time.
But no one knows who we are.
They wouldn't recognize our name.
We sure have a long way to go
To find that ladder to fortune and fame.

Oh - oh. We're just a little rock and roll band
Trying to reach the top.
Sometimes it seems so far away
But I know we'll never stop.
We'll never stop.

Here we are up on the stage
Just trying to play our song.
We try to make everything work out
But sometimes things go wrong.
I'd really love to have my picture taken,
Love to give my autograph.
And I'd love to make the people scream
But sometimes we only make them laugh.

Oh - oh. We're just a little rock and roll band
Trying to reach the top.
Sometimes it seems so far away
But I know we'll never stop.
We'll never stop.
