We must make sacrifices in order to reach contentment.
Learn not to hope. Learn not to want. Learn not to care.
Accept it that you are alone and cannot be understood.
Don't let anyone know what you're thinking.
Expect less so you won't be disappointed.
There can be no peace without inhibition.
There is no serenity without apathy.
There is no satisfaction.

Three Lessons
1. Accept that you are alone.
2. Accept that the past is the past.
3. Accept that you can't have everything you want.
Once you've accomplished that, then you may find contentment.

The Hermit

I'm no longer a musician or a poet for the same reason
that I no longer believe in God.
I don't want to believe in anything that isn't real.
What's the point of chasing after dreams that won't come true?
What's the point of writing poems that no one gets?
What's the point when no one really cares?
I've learned to accept myself for what I am - an ordinary man.
I stay home and watch TV every night,
and sleep in the arms of the one I love.
There's only one dream that matters.

Mark Sebring (2012)

Hope is the enemy.
Despair is inevitable.
Resignation is necessary.
But I'm struggling to achieve apatheia
(the serenity to accept things which are beyond our control)
rather than a resignation
filled with regret and resentment.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
