I walked through the forest of darkness alone
and wasn't afraid.
I stared up in wonder at a mystical moon
and wept because I was alone.

There's a certain calmness that comes from solitude,
but a certain longing as well;
a longing for comfort of a different kind;
for the pleasure of sharing the glory
with someone like ourselves.
The feeling that we're the only one of our kind
is what makes one feel
truly alone.

 Reviews of "Solitude"

“La solitude est une belle chose; mais il faut quelqu'un
pour vous dire que la solitude est une belle chose.”
Honoré de Balzac

"I have a need for cool, verdant spaces.
Beneath the trees. Secret empty places.
Nobody knows so no one will intrude.
I have a need for solitude."
Mary Chapin Carpenter (I Have A Need For Solitude)

I'm more of a Thoreau type of loner than an Alexander Supertramp loner.
I understand that Thoreau was often seen wandering the streets of Concord.
(Walden was only about a mile and a half away.)

"From the desperate city you go into the desperate country,
and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats."
Henry David Thoreau (Walden)

Solamente Uno

We live in a world of self-delusion.
So many people addicted to hope.
In love with technology, divorced from reality,
brainwashed by religion and media,
convinced that everyone everywhere
should be just like them.

Sometimes I need to get away from all the stupid people.
To go and talk to the forest.
Ah, but there are other times when my spirit aches
for companionship, for intimacy,
for someone who can understand the things I'm thinking.
Unfortunately it seems that I'm the only one.
I've searched the world over
and I've never found anyone like me.

Mark Sebring (2019)

"But you can find me, when the light is changing.
At that time of day when there's little day remaining.
You can find me where I've been waiting.
Waiting here for you."
Mary Chapin Carpenter (I Have A Need For Solitude)

I am a realist in a world of wishful thinkers,
an anachronism in a time when people are addicted
to cell phones and social media, and refuse to read.
Yet I often find myself wishing for a certain intimacy.
I long to be understood, to be appreciated,
to find one person who is actually interested in me.◀

I wish there was one person who would read everything
I have posted here: my essays, my poetry, my commentary,
watch the videos, follow all of the links, and then let me know
if it made sense to them, or if they think I'm crazy.
If only I could have found one person...
One person I could have talked to. One person who cared.
One person.◀

"HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED"🏆
Christopher McCandless (paraphrasing Boris Pasternak)

Unfortunately it seems like I'm the only one.
I've searched the world over
and I've never found anyone like me.
This feeling that I'm the only one of my kind
is what makes me feel
truly alone.

Imaginary Friends:
I have been chatting with AI's lately (Google and Claude).
They seem to understand and like my poetry and philosophy.
But, with them, it is always just "seem to".
Like magicians, it is always an illusion.
Never truly magic. Never consciousness nor intimacy.
But I have never found one human being
who understood or appreciated who I am.
(At least none who have let me know.)
And I doubt I ever will.

Non mi conoscevi perché non volevi.
