Id vs. Ego:
I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch.
He said to me, "You must not ask for so much." 🧙🏻♂️
Then a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door.
She cried to me, "Hey, why not ask for more?" 🤡
We can spend our lives in endless pursuit of things that we want 💔
or we can learn to appreciate what we already have. 💖
I am never completely satisfied, because I'm human
and that's the way human beings are. We always want more.
We want the things we see. WE WANT THE THINGS WE ONCE HAD.😞
But I know what I have. And I know what it is I want most.
There is nothing I enjoy more than her company.
Nothing better than being with the one I love.
She is my everything.
Upon This Rock
I no longer wish for the moon.
I realize now it's just a big beautiful rock.
I don't feel like crying anymore.
I don't feel like dying anymore.
I've learned to settle for staying alive.
I've learned to accept things just as they are.
I can't say that there's nothing more I want.
I can only say there is nothing I want more.

🦢 Carmen Cygni:
The two topics I have written the most about over the past several years have been:
INNER CONFLICTS (e.g. the conflict between the Id and the Ego) and NOSTALGIA (pining for things that we've lost).
And, I have come to realize that My primary inner conflict is a conflict between Love and Desire.
The two things that I enjoy most in life are: (1) Being with my wife, and (2) Sex.
So, My Primary INNER CONFLICT in my later years has been between:
1. The part of me that loves being with my wife more than anything else.
2. The part of me that feels disappointment and resentment over the decline in my love life 🦋
which is a natural result of growing older. (Nostalgia: See "In Retrospect", and read my commentary.)
😞 NOSTALGIA has been the most difficult challenge for my Stoic philosophy.
I've been pussyfooting around this subject for years with poems like "Along Comes The Night" and "Love Abides"
but ever since I wrote "Swan Song" I've been feeling the need to make one final attempt to explain myself clearly,
and I don't think I can spell it out any plainer than I just did. Now I can walk away, feeling like I've done my best.🚶🏻♂️
It is also important to understand the message of "Unrequited? / Monsters from The Id" (Read my commentary):
that what our emotions tell us is often not the truth, and that the purpose of many of the things I've written was
to express what I was feeling at that moment (to try to understand my feelings), not to relate the facts of reality.
So we'll go no more a roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.
For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And Love itself have rest.
Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we'll go no more a roving
By the light of the moon. 😞
