So here I am, up in the attic again,
looking at scrapbooks and postcards,
rummaging through old memories,
trying to find that one time
when everything was perfect.
And hoping that some lingering scent,
some faint sensation might remain;
might be enough to bring me back
to that one time, that one place,
just for a moment.
For this is what one does
when in the misty dark horizon
not a glimmer of hope is perceived.

I can't say why, but
have a tendency to envy each other.

The past can be a difficult thing to compete with.

Nostalgia:
"But I remember us ridin' in my brother's car,
her body tan and wet down at the reservoir.
At night on them banks I'd like awake
and pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take.
NOW THOSE MEMORIES COME BACK TO HAUNT ME.
THEY HAUNT ME LIKE A CURSE.
Is a dream a lie that don't come true
or is it somethin' worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry.
That sends me down to the river tonight."
Bruce Springsteen (The River)

Rosebud
You know, I don't really miss it. Well, I guess I do miss it some,
but not nearly as much as I miss other things in life.
And it's no use staring into a candy store window
when you haven't got the price of admission.

Excellent! I share these sediments, Mark. I have a tendency to look back on leaving my old full-time position a little too soon because the going got pretty rough and I was very close to retirement age. I have happily worked part-time ever since so I wonder why I feel this way. Perhaps it's knowing I could have made a positive difference regardless of the circumstances. Well done!
