round here subdivision are subdivided with 6' high fences an interesting comment on life
I walk down the street in our subdivision confronted by the blank faces of the private fortresses of my fellow sub dividers. between each house the mutually constructed stockades stand an interlocking of the security blanket that we collectively agree to pretend exists between the miles and miles pressure treated lumber hat supports in us the shared magical thought of privacy outside the sidewalk carries past the conformal pattern of the front lawnnscape of fence so high and lawns so clipped and hedges so tall … behind the fence we are cacooned from concern for our neighbor, loving our neighbor only as it pleases us. /knowing our neighbor only as so far as we condescend to be known. do good fences make good neighbors? perhaps or perhaps not round here the best we can say is that good fences make good strangers in our culture of indifference,

Too true everywhere today it seems...my other half wants to buy a house with 18 acres around it, ostensibly for a horse farm, but far enough from neighbors that we cannot be bothered by...Ed

These high fences are indicative of our highly individualistic times. There is little inter-connectedness or interdependency. And this leads to demands of individual rights and the breakdown of society in general. Caring for each other builds healthy societies.

Okay...enough philosophical talk. You stimulated good thought!
