Announcing the release of Simple Truths and Coughing Things from Little Poem Press.
Co-authored by Patricia Gomes & Michael Paul Ladanyi
From the book:
~ The Lastest Style: In Answer to Your Letter ~
It was one of those nights
you promise yourself you won't drink
too much
then you drink
too much
because the mood is right
and the poetry's bad.
Fills the room, the gallery, the church,
the abandoned 4th floor of the now-defunct
and condemned pajama factory
(wherever it is they choose to slam)
with toxic fumes
as one young thing
after another
seeks to impress
with their raving newness
and their inimatable style
stolen from those long dead who, of course,
did it better. They holler, these young poets,
stomp their feet and sneer a lot.
Candice swears I left with her boyfriend;
I don't believe her, but I can't remember
how I got home, so perhaps I did.
If I did, he must have been a dreadful bore
else I'd remember him ... don't you think?
Either way, she's not speaking to me.
Candice is pink roses atop the over-frosted,
already too sweet cake. Pretty to look at,
but a steady diet of the damned things
will kill you ... or drive you mad.
I suppose I'll miss her
after a time.
Belly shots are the thing now;
can you imagine us doing that?
baring our scars, or rolls, our
mother-bellies for all to see? Exposed
for all the world to gawk and point at—
it is very like poetry ... don't you think?

it is so down to earth yet there is a quality to it that has a surreal feel. maybe it is what is lying beneath I am not sure
It is just an Impression I get
I am torn since "Putting Summer in Its Place" and "Simple Truths
En Pointe" have become my evening mantras! Every poem in "Simple Truths and Coughing Things" is a much needed exhale of the "things"
too often left festering beneath the skin--a clearing, starting at the point of conception and making its way through " wishbones, tadpole omens, black moth's wings and those final photographs; you know--the ones where we couldn't bear to brush shoulders" giving the reader many Ah-huh moments, a clear eye of perception and a few laughs along the way! It is a book I will be giving as a gift this coming holiday...these are poems we can all see ourselves in!
"If I have to...Then I may as well be."

"Candice is pink roses atop the over-frosted,
already too sweet cake. Pretty to look at,
but a steady diet of the damned things
will kill you ... or drive you mad."
What wonderful descriptive talents -- you say a universe of things with such elegant economy!
