Can’t Fly

Waiting for a star to fall

Can’t seem to hold the thought

Reaching for the other side

Doing what you've been taught

Moving from this hidden place

One eye upon the sky

Rushing off to hinterland

Wishing can’t make you fly

What was it Mother said

Before the earth began to move?

Who can offer more than life?

And there’s nothing left to prove

Filled my mind with thoughts of a future meteor strike, with us very unprepared to leave the planet, the source of our life.

The line "Wishing can't make you fly" resonates with me. Wishing can give you an idea of where you want to go, but you still have to be "Doing what you've been taught." Well said.

a preference for rural living, this is what the Amish and Mennos have to say in that it is reflected in attitudes and informal interactions rather than in explicit dogma. god is more explicit in closeness to nature in the soil and among trees, plants and animals than in the man-made city. the physical world is good and in itself is not considered corrupting or evil...its beauty is in the orderliness of the seasons, 'tis the working of the muscles and the aching of the limbs. toil is good protection from the influence of urbanism. agrarian in poetic character, Day...good to see you here today my Colorado neighbor...

Ahh . . . It's that last line of course, that the poem was set up to deliver. When you get to the point where there's nothing left to prove, you become, suddenly and forever, free.
