Tribute to Death and Life
Death like a dark shadow lurks
Drawing in close from afar
Teetering on crumbling life’s edge
Blackest of black rose in a jar.
With closed eyes and parsed lips
Wanting the sweet swell of release
Yet grasping for holds to hang on
The sound of short breaths and peace.
Angels dual for his unspotted soul
Fighting and snarling to gain at death
Yet, for what, he doesn’t let go?
Words stumble and fall in a breath.
Death is the hardest of hard
He’s lived much more than some
He lived a long wonderful life
The long sleep just doesn’t come
