Shadow of my past life
Closed off, quiet screams
Words that never leave my lips
Screw this, it has to stop
This aint me, I’m not like this
Pregnant silence all around
Itching to let this frustration out
But instead I nod and smile
Live a lie to please the scouts
Layer after layer of deceit
Reality blurred under false pretense
How long must this façade go on?
Till I’m ready to jump the fence
Cuz,
I feel like a stranger in my own skin
Even my reflection doesn’t fit in
And now my patience is running thin
Freezing my heart and soul from within
Leaving nothing but a vessel behind
A broken shadow of my past life
I chose a new mask everyday
Not a wrinkle out of place
Even if I’m breaking on the inside
No emotion must ever cross my face
Sick of dotting my i’s and crossing my t’s
Its time I colored outside the lines
I refuse to hide my horrid reality
To appear so perfect within these confines
You cannot just raise a wolf
Then teach it to be tame
A beast will never fit in a circus
Even if you give it a stage name
So,
I’m done feeling like a stranger in my own skin
No more will my reflection try to fit in
Through these walls of façade, I’m breaking in
Melting my heart, freeing my soul from within
Piece by piece I’ll mend this
Broken shadow of my past life

Stunningly raw and real poem. The candid emotions are like a punch in the readers gut.
I guess self-loving care and acceptance for being human. We all have those two hungry wolves.
