The magnificent energy they possess at 4
A resource abundant you cannot ignore
From sunup till sunset they run at full speed
The power of youth, a clock won't impede
An open eyelid is the signal to run
Not a thought for the weather be it rain, hail, or sun
Imagination navigates this playful journey
Each moment a gift, of fresh discovery
Everyday articles all over the home
In the hands of a child take on a new tone
A bathroom mat turns into a sled
An old cardboard box, a baby dolls bed
The family dog becomes a white mare
A blanket a bridal veil beyond compare
An ice cream scoop become a microphone
The perfect accomodation for volume and tone
A plastic funnell can transform
A cherub into a unicorn
A mermaid evolves each nite in the tub
And genies appear when creamers are rubbed
Mommy's bra is a hammock for Barbie and Ken
A jock strap, a slingshot, that is used to defend
The stars are our friends so high in the sky
Who light up our dreams when monsters drop by
A sponge is a rain cloud to quench a parched horse
A white wall,some lipstick.....Its Rembrandt of course!!!
A freshly made bed is a trampoline
Where a wannabe accrobat bounces unsceen
A ceiling fan heaped with dirty laundry
Turned on at high speed is more fun than TV
If this vigor was harnessed you'd power a town....
Little citizens jumping and bouncing around!!!
But society demands that we all must mature
Conform to authority, and pay homage to laws
Yet deep in our hearts, buried way in the back
Unaffected by time, or panic attacks
With an impish outlook, and predictable grin
Our 4 yr old souls wait for dreams to begin
This inner child like a canvas so white
Can fly on the wind, and in each day delights!
Our epoch begins on the day we are born
Our bodies a vessel, our souls must adorn
To transverse this earth in the form of a man
Our four yr old selves are all part of this plan.
Just had my grandchildren come to visit. Took three days to clear up what they had messed in an afternoon. But who cares. Your poem describes all manner of fun, which is something we oldies tend to forget. Why not be a four year old again?
I hope I still have that 4 yr old in me!
Great write! ;)
