A huge spring downpour
Had arrived here overnight
My canines had all sensed it
They soon woke me with delight

All of them now waited very anxiously
As I now very hastily got myself dressed
Then, man and dogs rushed out the door
All of us knew that we had been blessed

And what a truly marvelous miracle of nature
Our backyard had been transformed overnight
There were now huge mud puddles everywhere
Such a truly marvelous muddy morning delight

My dogs all quickly began romping and rolling
And in their utter joy, they soon pounced on me
As the birds sang, and we all now mud wrestled
I was once again a kid at heart and filled with glee

But my utter joy and happiness were soon interrupted
When we suddenly heard an angry voice in the window
“Don’t you dare let those dogs back in, with all that mud,
And you will have to give them all a bath, I hope you know!”

That’s just about the time that the eagle in me wanted to fly
But that hippo in me, still wanted to wallow in all of this mud
So without even thinking about the possible consequences
I tossed a huge mudball, and it hit our windows with a thud

And now, my dogs and I heard loud demonic laughter
Coming from inside that now mud stained window glass
“That was truly brilliant, Mr. Smarty Pants Mud Monster,
And now, you can wash windows, and give those dogs a bath!”

The now amused birds were still serenading me
As I soon scrubbed both canines and windows
And even though my spouse had been quite nasty
This muddy morning delight had refreshed my soul
