My spouse constantly likes to tease me
That I look more and more like our pets
But I bet that she’ll soon change her mind
Since she hasn’t met our latest adoptee yet

I just found him at a small roadside fruit stand
He was terribly sad looking and so very all alone
There was something special about this pumpkin
I somehow knew that he yearned for a good home

And, he must be an extremely intuitive pumpkin
Because he soon spotted the mist in my eyes
And before I knew what was even happening
Gobs of tiny orange pumpkin seeds he did cry

As I stood there feeling sorry for this orphan
I soon heard the young female clerk proclaim
“You two definitely belong together, Mister;
You should buy this pumpkin, right away!”

Before very long at all, my new pal and I
Were heading down the road in my SUV
He finally looked very content and happy
Snuggled in the passenger seat next to me

As we headed home, it dawned on me
I would name my new pet ‘Toothless’
And, he was definitely all smiles now
Knowing that not all men are ruthless

What an extremely marvelous feeling
Bringing yet another street urchin home
Toothless will never again have to worry
This orphan will never again have to roam

And this should finally prove to my wife
That I don’t look like all of our pets
For I am pretty darn confident
That I still have a few teeth left

I hope you can find it in your heart,
To adopt a homeless pumpkin, too;
I bet there’s a very special one waiting,
At a little roadside fruit stand, just for you.
