Wildwood at Sunrise

I find myself spending more and more time with Nature lately;
In this sad old world, Nature is the only thing that still comforts me.

“Nothing is more beautiful,
Than the loveliness of the woods at sunrise.”
George Washington Carver
I awaken on the lakeshore
The scent of pine is in the air
I peer out into the darkness
A grand event about to occur
My two dogs now look at me with anticipation
They too love the sights and sounds of the lake
Soon, the three of us are up and wandering
Now, all of our senses are all vibrantly awake
A cricket is finishing its night song
A raccoon is rustling in the brush
As we head down the lakeshore path
We hear the very lovely song of a thrush
A few leaves have fallen in the night
I hear their crunch beneath my boots
As we slowly pass beneath a nesting owl
He gives us a very pleasant morning hoot
And now, an early rising woodpecker
Begins tapping on an ancient oak tree
And here, on the awakening lakeshore
A duck and her three tiny offspring we see
We perch on a moss covered rock by the shoreline
And soon, we spot a mother deer and her two fawn
They are standing very serenely across the lakeshore
Drinking sips of cool lake water, in anticipation of dawn
An invigorating lake breeze begins wafting towards us
As we spy a dab of light, playfully peeking over the trees
And now, we hear the very joyous yodel of a northern loon
As its mate joins it on the water, reveling in dawn’s serenity
We sit silently in awe and anticipation
As we watch another wildwood sunrise
Although I have seen it hundreds of times
It still brings such wondrous joy to my eyes
Nothing is more beautiful,
Than the wildwood, at sunrise.

lovely morning, lovely work
sunrise, best time of the morning!!
For those that wish for "the good old days," I have to remind them that back when Wisconsin was raped, most predators were hunted to near extinction, and beautiful places like you describe were generally a dumping ground for every kind of trash you could think of. Bad farming practices polluted water and ruined woodlands with erosion. Industries along major rivers created pollution that persists to this day.
Thankfully, the upper Midwest's mighty natural forests have regenerated from stewardship. Wildlife nearly gone, have come back in abundance, and people, generally, do not pollute or illegally hunt as much as they used to. Cities have cleaned up considerably from what they were. If only we could stop people from buying and throwing away pet animals, our world be much better like that wilderness lake scene you so beautifully describe in the morning.
