Bring Me No Flowers

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

We will be laid to rest at the feet of The Lady At The Cross. What a beautiful place for our bodies to be for eternity. But our souls will fly high into the heavens and soar like the eagles.

Bring Me No Flowers

Bring me no flowers, stand not now where I lay.
And weep not for me for as I sleep, now I am at peace.

Yet look around at the beauty and with your eyes and heart softly behold. Listen to the wind for through it I now speak.

Smell the scent of fields and trees now in bloom. Taste the sweetness of the early mornings light. See the birds as they soar on the heavens upon high, then think of me for it is with them I now fly.

So bring me no flowers, shed not a single tear. Remember our dreams and the happiness we had. Be not sorrowful, but in all things give thanks. Love not for what is now lost, but hold close to your heart our love and memories and be forever glad.

So bring me no flowers, for I am not even here. I'm in the wind and the sun. I am now the warm breeze. I am always with you.

Therefore my love, be at peace. For my love is forever with you, so put now your mind at ease.

I gather from your poem that cemeteries are for the living and not for the dead. But I've noted that many cemeteries are suffering from overcrowding and/or neglect.

But cemeteries are peaceful places until the dark of a moonlit night when they can become quite terrifying.

I don't believe in cemeteries,
so no flowers for me.
Just cremate my remains,
and set my ashes free.

I wouldn't bring or give you flowers when you are as yet alive, let alone after you've moved on. I mean, why waste my money on flowers that will end up in the trash at the cemetery? Maybe someday we will finally meet but on the other side, better than nothing, hope you find peace always, now and then...-e-

Maybe that's why I don't visit my brother's or my parent's graves. I don't feel like they're there. They are up above, watching over me. Thank you for the bittersweet poem.
