'Will I survive?'

After 29 years at my present job I have no idea what my future will hold, yet, I wanted to leave in grace, and not disgrace.

I will be retiring after over 40+ years of my lifetime working 5 or more days a week and I’m afraid…
I venture now into uncertainty. I wonder amid excitement and fear. Will I be able to adjust? Will I be able to cope without a schedule? Will I survive?
A thousand dreams strike my heart. What will I do? Where therefore I ask where I should start.
My soul speaks to me to lend a hand to my fellow man, yet I am fearful that the bills and burdens I shan’t be able to withstand.
Therefore, for those who shall pray, say a prayer for me this most frightening day. For the time has come for me to give up working for a living and to work at living.
I pray that my time will come to help others for the greater good. I wish to bring fulfillment to those in need. I hope and pray that I will one day be understood that my heart is for others and not myself.

I share your concern, it is difficult to NOT be getting ready for school, now that I am in year 3 of retirement, it does take some getting used to
your life has always been lived in a positive manner, retirement will follow that plan

These days I work so little it's like having a trickle of spark to hold on to what I have done full-time in the past.
I mentor college students. Just enough to keep life interesting but not too much to overwhelm. So, as they say, life is a balance. Then other FUN interest such as writing, gardening, kayaking, biking and swimming kick-in just about every day. Family chores are welcomed as they are challenging and change from day-to-day with my wife's, "to-do list" and shopping list. My challenge is to bike ride to the store or add some exercise to the chore. That's about it except for challenging myself to help another fellow being at least once a day.
If that's retirement, then I like it.
I also have two male cat's that love to play fight. Watching then fly through the house insures me that no moment is predictable! That's a GREAT life! Now, go out and have FUN!
Amen!
I understand the plight of the working man. Having to live, paycheck to paycheck, and not able to save enough for safe retirement. I expect that you will keep working in one way or another to supplement your Social Security. If those in power in Washington have their way, they will do away with Social Security in the future. All working people need to ponder that they come up with ways to save from their meager salaries.
And, please continue to write and make it more like your job every day. We will be reading.
