My Mind is a Lonely Place
Living in my own mind, I find it to be a lonely Place. Happiness is a place now lost to the invalidation of a time long ago.
I find very little reason, though; I try, I struggle, I strive, yet sometimes I feel as if I am not even alive.
I watch as the world before me unfolds like an old paperback novel before my very eyes.
My mind is a strange place. Filled with long ago hopes, and sometimes-horrific dreams. I wish for what once was, yet realize and understand that I cannot recapture the beautiful part of my past the way it was way back then.
If I dig past the convoluted time and search deep, I can find those happier times if not for a fleeting moment.
I can smell the woods. I can hear the rush of a river and watch with a smile as the squirrels of the forest scamper about.
I recall with fondness of heart walking the beaches of my past hand and hand with a long ago girlfriend. My dreams were innumerable. I recall standing at oceans edge looking into her eyes and she into mine. I could hear the crashing waves all the while feeling the warmth of her smile.
A songwriter once wrote; ‘If I could catch time in a bottle’, I would have done as much.
However, life has many paths. We have crossroads that lead us in many directions, some good, some bad and sometimes the bad last forever.
Yes, living in my mind is a lonely place.

MY MIND IS A LONELY NORTH SEA PLAICE...
My mind is a lonely North Sea Plaice,
Swimming always along the uncertain bottom
Of an ocean too deep and too vast to ever ken.
How many times I wish I were a schooling fish
Rather than a lonesome, solitary dweller among rocks,
Floundering hither and thither, seeking out the spirit
Residue of more joyous swarms of piscatorial life
Up higher on the ebullient, if always dangerous
Currents above.
Down here, it is cold, so cold on this
Deepest of abysmal shoals...the darkness
Enveloping with clammy, bivalve finality.
The solitary virtue of being a bottom-dweller, then,
One can sink no lower than this, when life finally
Ineluctably departs forever.
