Update on J Allen

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

During hurricane Helene while most of us were praying for power to be restored (electricity was out for 10 days) and praying that all the trees that could be heard falling and crashing all around the house would not hit us, J Allen was fighting desperately for his life. He was in surgery having 95% of his colon taken out and trying to get his vitals to get back to normal. After 3 months in the hospital (3 full weeks in ICU) and then another week in January 2025 he has finally settled down to a routine. His surgeon just recently turned him loose and said he should be able to live a somewhat normal and long life.
Thank you Jesus

Poem Artwork

 This is Jan.

Just wanted to do an update on J. Allen. I think he is doing exceptionally well. He’s got empting his bag in no time flat. Still has to be emptied every 2 to 3 hours day and night which leaves him tired all the time.

Living in a small town with only one large store (Ingles, our local and only grocery store) he goes there everyday and walks the aisles. He walks 1 to 2 ½ miles everyday. Guess you can just call him the Ingles walker, lol. Has not skipped a day since his last hospital visit in January.

He’s back to taking really good care of me and to Ms. Looney, (his late wife Leah’s mother who will be 98 this coming January). Speaking of Leah, this past weekend would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. Also her birthday/day of death will be in less than 2 weeks from now. May she continue to rest in peace.

So many of you longtime writers on AuthorsDen knew of their love story. When I met him online and a couple of months later when we felt it was time to meet in person, all my friends were all over me about he could be a catfish scammer. From the beginning I checked up on him by going to his websites and here on AuthorsDen and read so many of his poems and knew he was special. Then he asked me to read and edit (this was before it was put into print) anything I found needed fixing in his book he wrote during her illness and passing and I KNEW if anyone who loved and wrote like that could not possibly harm a hair on anyone.

For many years we talked about him finishing several stories he had started and us traveling and him writing about it when he retired. Well it just didn’t work out. He retired in 2019 and that was when he threw away his pad and pens. That cursed Writers Block took hold of him and has not let go as of yet. He says he’s content not writing anymore. I think I mourned for his writing more than he has. And I’m still in mourning. Lol

I just wanted to update his progress. He knows he’s developed a hernia around his stoma and I will ask for prayers that it doesn’t become a problem and more surgery will be needed. Other than that he’s still alive and kicking.

As always I still will ask for prayer from those who pray, that he will have many more good years here on this earth.  Thanks for reading these ramblings of someone who loves this man more than life itself.

Thanks for the update, Jan. I thought we had lost J Allen, but I guess it's only his writer's block that keeps us from hearing from him. Why I'm so glad that you are letting us know.

Changing that bag does sound like a real chore for someone. But I'm glad that he's able to walk so much every day and retire when he complained that he couldn't retire with all of his obligations.

My urine bag has to be emptied about every five hours and sometimes, since I can't do it, it's been difficult to get someone to empty it for me. And unlike J Allen, I've been unable to walk for 30 years. And haven't let the house except for doctor appointments since I quit driving in 2017.

But I haven't lost my muse. It's more active than ever. I had a wonderful sexy dream last night that I should write but I don't have any time left.

You and J Allen are one of several romances that have benefited from AD. I've had one for about 15 years, but she has returned to her ex-husband and has never come to my house because she knows that my partner, Beh, would be hurt. She started work for me 32 years ago to take care of me and has, all these years, faithfully with love as I change with age.

Ron
