Skeleton in the Closet

The fascination, fixation and frustration of Family History Research.
A hobby that is habit forming and one that I am addicted to.

Skeleton in the Closet

A skeleton in the closet
is what I would love to find,
not just some boring character
who lounged around, then died.

I’d like to find a Knight
who did a dirty deed, or two!
Or a nasty cutthroat pirate
who loved his cockatoo!

 I wouldn’t mind a Highwayman
well known for his derring-do.
A suave, sophisticated ladies man
who made them sob as he bid adieu.

But frustration is what I get
as the records I try to search,
‘No match’ keeps popping up
and to those words I am averse.

 Ag-labs are difficult to find
as they skip from place to place,
and of that Army Deserter
I simply cannot find a trace.

I’ll just have to keep on digging
through the family history chests,
till I find those ancestral bones, and,
maybe, some hidden family crests!

With luck you will find what you are looking for, but it may turn out more than you bargained for, whatever good luck.

I think that when you are most disappointed that is when you will find that an ancestor was the real-life Robin Hood. Wouldn't that be a kick, it isn't a fictional story after all. Keep plugging away.

May your search be fruitful, Jackie; and may the skeletons be nice. Love and peace. Regis

Search On, Jackie; I've been doing the same with my family, and I discover more all the time; fascinating stuff!

Great write on a most interesting subject...the past, and how it made us who we are today. As for skeletons, I agree with Robert, some best be not known.

my family tree was documented to 1693 ... what a bunch of skeletons lurk in its closet the likes of which were better off not known ...
