It happens to the best of us ...

We've all experienced those lean times in the month when you're down on your uppers to the point of searching fruitlessly down the sofa for stray coins because things are tight.

And if you're an ordinary person like me, something, anything, by coincidence will scupper your intentions of stretching everything you have when there's too much month at the end of the money.

I experienced one such weekend whereby I got ill and one basic commodity in my house became like gold dust. This is my brief poetic account conveying the situation.

Well...I saw the funny side later.

It's a week where my pockets are flat, real flat,
and my purse is even flatter
When even food runs low, and so
what does it matter
that the loo roll thins yet sod's law wins,
dictating I exercise overuse
hating the 'dire'  valid excuse
though hardly wise, one sighs
It's just not fair when all I crave,
acutely aware,
is to stretch, yes I'm that wretch,
that tries to save
what little I have till I can say
replenishment sent abject poverty away

And I can then shriek Yay, at last, payday!

It's called "payday to payday" living in so many are experiencing it. I'm glad you've come out of it and are able to joke about what you had to do when it came down to it.

Everyone should have the basics and not have to worry about having enough food to eat, especially if they're working very hard just to make a paycheck. Let us hope that our esteemed leaders can see that and make sure that we don't go hungry or lack basic necessary sanitary life. If not, there'll be a big stink someday and they won't like the smell.

That's when you dig out the plastic, and say, "CHARGE!"
