As I was awaiting my turn in a doctor’s office today, my thoughts drifted back to very dark days in my life. My primary care doctor advised me to seek help from a specialist for diagnosis of symptoms he was unable to pinpoint. This event inspired the following narrative of my experience, together with some sound advice for those currently experiencing this dreadful malady and those who could be a future victim. This recent picture shows my dear sister and I racing shopping carts in Walmart.

In a doctor’s waiting room Drowsing, squirming to be free From these dreaded words of doom Another drawn out time for me Trying hard to make my mind Focus on a good report Hoping that they did not find Symptoms of the last resort Then my turn to see the Doc Arrived at last and so I went To get the news that would not rock The world to me the Lord has sent The doctor ordered tests complete To define the way that he should go To determine how that he should treat A tumor that was sure to grow Lymphoma was the word he used Non-Hodgkins was the type he said This caused my mind to feel abused Not wanting to be declared dead My Lord and Savior took control And guided me to best of care Now ten years later I am whole My life’s adversities to share If you should care to hear my plea Lift your chin and take advice From one who knows that somehow we Can live our lives with things so nice Advice from me is so sublime “Let go, Let God” is all you need To heed the words that “In His Time” Will guide your way to Him indeed Copyright © 2011 James Johnston

Those days changed both our lives. We had met at Scott & White Clinic in Temple, TX for a diagnosis. When we left, you drove North to Longview and I drove West to Bandera to pack and move to be near you. It seems that so much of our lives have been a blend of the best of times and the worst of times. And the good times just keep on coming.

Thank you for sharing this dread from your heart and influencing all of us to take heed and take care of ourselves. Praise God that the outcome was positive; all is and will be in Gods timing. A heartfelt write from someone who has "been there and done that!"
