Beer Buddy

I think it will be another story

like other lost souls, a sad refrain,

but I soon learn that my Buddy

has a private pain

It seems he and his wife

have no action in the marriage bed

she has Skin cancer and a prolapsed Uterus,

leaves you with little to be said

He has female friends who are eager

to give him pleasure any night,

yet the guy has always been faithful

and for him it wouldn't be right

Yet what can a guy do or for

that matter for me to say

how do I come up with the words

that helps him night and day?

I guess this is what they call

for better or worse as they do

still with no sex at all I can see

what he wants-and so can you

So many lost souls in this bar tonight

looking to get drunk or for love,

I know he still loves his wife

she is an Angel from above

All I can say is I'll be his friend

to let him pour out his private pain,

perhaps give his cries to God

if his private hell comes around again?

I know others will say

too bad-so sad-go get laid,

find a willing woman

"you have needs"-what more can be said?

Still as I look around this lonely bar

I feel others are nursing their private pain,

sometimes a friend just needs to listen

leave the advice to an expert again

Somebody in counseling with experience

still, I feel for the pain in his soul,

behind a plastic smile set in place

he's married to a woman he doesn't know

Sometimes being a friend to someone

doesn't mean you have answers at all

sometimes just being silent and just there

tho you feel like wall paper on a wall

I'm a guy who likes to help

yet I'm at a loss as I drink my beer,

how many friends have their unspoken pain

never to voice them year after year?

What a great write. You really get inside the heads of ordinary people, men and women, who never voice their problems but drown them in drink - the "private pain" you speak of -

how many friends have their unspoken pain

never to voice them year after year?

So very true lines, my friend. And there is never an easy answer except that sometimes, silence is truly golden.

This gives me mixed feelings. Number one, it's a creative write. Number two, it shares some empathy for the other person, even if it is in the strange confines of a beer bar. Finally, I totally can't sympathize with the so-called poor guy who can't get laid. If he is so stuck on faithfulness, he should shut up his mouth about all the “pain” abstinence is giving him. Some men, and I won't go into detail, for various reasons, fully potent, remain abstinent for very long periods of time. Why don't you suggest that he just, “give himself a hand.”

If his wife recovers, he can go back to his old habit of using her for his religious and state sanctioned humping ground. if she doesn't, he should get over his false sense of grief in a beer bottle and get on with his life with as many women as he wants.

What is lacking in this poem is any concern for the wife who is really bearing real pain.

Love ya!
