Heroes or Villains.

As in most of folklore stories time glosses over things,
Those who once were villains, become heroes so it seems,
So it goes on through ages the tales become endowed,
With changes o’er the passing time, they’re the heroes now,

I think of all the fables, like tales of Robin Hood,
To the sheriff he was a villain, to the poor he made life good
,In Australia we have folk heroes of whom we stand in awe,
Ned Kelly, Captain Moonlight. Ben Hall and many more,

They were men of action, their exploits at times seemed grand,
Wete they really heroes or a blot upon the land,
Did they serve a purpose, to make a better life for all,
Or were their wayward actions just aimed to break the law,

Brutal times and brutal laws were the order of the day,
There was a constant struggle to survive, there was no other way,
Imposing law and order were the police with an iron fist,
Woe betide the person who was strong enough to resist,

Likewise the thieves and robbers existed by their wits,
Life was cheap and justice poor, one life would not be missed,
Poor settlers became victims for both sides so it seems,
All they could do was to struggle on to try and realize dreams,

So a history was written, about this great harsh land,,
About police and robbers who were willing to take their stand,
And tales of fights and hardship become the folklore of this land,
Just who were the villains and heroes, sometimes is hard to understand.
