Sonnet for a Summer Night
(english sonnet)
The stifling summer heat has gone away,
the blistering sun merely a memory,
as darkness swallows up the light of day,
and evening insects play a symphony.
At midnight's gentle hush, I think of you—
my thoughts riding the stillness of the night.
They wrap around my hopes, over and through,
that dare emerge and toward the stars take flight.
How would we find ourselves, if we were here
together in the summer's velvet black?
And could, perhaps, I put away my fear—
a whisper that you're never coming back?
The nights of summer turn a troubled soul
in need of love to rend the darkness whole.
