Blue Moon Rising

Shreds of blue-gray clouds are parting;

slipping through the veil, a glimmer.

Peeping toads and fireflies starting,

minnows on the surface darting;

indigo of day grows dimmer.

Through the mist of evening's sighing,

draped in ink-stained, mossy fingers,

stand the silent trees, untying

veins of violet skylight, dying

where her benediction lingers.

With her luminescent rising,

day departs, inconstant keeper.

Swaying softly, mesmerizing,

dusk descends as tantalizing

tableau folds and furrows deeper.

Moon ascends with heaven's heaving.

Lake's reflection spills her graces,

lucent path to light her leaving—

wispy blues of twilight weaving

threads of night with star-strewn spaces.

This is enchanting poetry…
The kind I love…
The atmosphere you create and describe
is beautifully ‘other worldly’…

Your poem is well written and very descriptive. I was confused about the title as well.

Confused title or not, the rest of your poem is so vividly descriptive of my experience with nighttime that I would have to give it a two thumbs up as one of the best ways to describe a picture in fewer words than 10,000.

Enjoyed your poem, but I'm confused about the title. A blue moon occurs when there is a 2nd full moon in the same month.
