just an old thought that creeped in yesterday

april 13, 2013

Just waiting for the axe to fall
he had spent most of his recall.
Did not matter if love or life
it never seemed he did enough.
He accomplished more by noontime
than most would do all day on time.
As a she let him to her greet
no more caring man would she meet.

Honors, awards work rewarded
civic involvement accepted.
Yet ne'er included, felt a one
just get the tasks before you done.
Every her he spent time beside
haf ulterior aims to hide.
He'd not known love for him at all
still expecting the axe to fall.

Something that plagues a lot of us whether
it be in a relationship or the job... can be
unnerving... in particular if we are not acknowledged
and left feeling that we haven't done enough...
not a good feeling this waiting...

Heavy thoughts that creped in. Hopefully you can quickly force them back to the farthest corners of your mind and replace them with much happier thoughts

Chopping wood metaphor in your poem, Budd,
is a wonderful mind throwback time to experience
heartfelt words of life.....in passing.

Writing it 3rd person seems to have eluded some readers. 1st person would have made schmaltzy confessional clap trap. Choosing the mode of narrative correctly is always the key to making a poem constructively usable for the reader, the chance to look away a ponder, then back to the narrative purpose of the poem. This is, of course, the opposite of a writer needing sympathy, empathy et al., . choosing to create a vehicle as nothing more than a means to somehow give access to the poet's personal life (which, quite frankly, all art should be about the work, not the artist)The 1st person position in poetry always says think on "me" not the outreach of the words. Well done, Budd.

Thoughts like that are dangerous and can tie you down. Give every impression that there are ghosts in the closet that are afraid to come out.
