just a stream of thoughts I had about the coming holiday next week
November 14, 2017
On this drab grey and dour day
i think on such a day before.
When peoples of different ways
came to share their bounty and more.
One had come from so far away
to stake their claims on others shores.
the otherhere had been always
or for as long as the stories bore.
Others had come in years gone by
to distant North and farther south.
Some poorly planned were lost or died
others endured, no cheers, no shouts.
Of these called natives, none deny
they were dealt bad and shoved about.
So today we celebrate, why
because tis thanks we need to shout.
Thanks to those who in our hearts live.
Thanks to those who help others out.
Thanks to the ones who always give.
Thanks for lives we're happy about.
Thanks to a God who does forgive.
Thanks to one we can't live without.
Thanks to a country where we live.
Happy Thanksgiving without doubt.
I regret I hadn't read it any sooner but it is awesome! Life is a gift from God and so is this particular piece of poetry, by you my brother! Thank you! Peace!!!
I will gladly recite these words for our next Thanksgiving...
I just added an "a" at the end. OK...
Thanks to those who in our hearts live.
Thanks to those who help others out.
Thanks to the ones who always give.
Thanks for lives we're happy about.
Thanks to a God who does forgive.
Thanks to one we can't live without.
Thanks to a country where we live.
Happy Thanksgiving without a doubt.
WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR. FOR WE ARE AN IMPERFECT NATION AND AN IMPERFECT PEOPLE BUT WE SERVE A PERFECT AND FORGIVING GOD...WHO CONSTANTLY CONTINUES TO KEEP AND BLESS US IN SPITE OF US AND FOR THIS, CERTAINLY, I SAY...HAPPY THANKSGIVING! THANKS FOR SHARING, BUDD. OVERFLOWING LOVE, RADIANT BLESSINGS AND AN ABUNDANCE OF FAITH TO YOU AND YOURS...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Your poem reminds me that even the poor who have to use food stamps just to get by, can have a bountiful feast here in Houston on Thanksgiving day because there are several organizations that pull all stops to make sure that the bounty of harvest is available to all on this day of thankfulness. What started out as the coming together of like and dislike peoples to share what they had garnered in the summer during their hard work and now had an abundance while it was still fresh and there were still ample quantities before winter would set in and make it so hard to even live without starving before spring.
We should be doubly thankful today that our supermarkets are still full of fresh food at everyday low prices in the spring when nothing had grown for six months before when the tradition started, but does now, thanks to modern technology and transportation.
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
Wonderful poem of thankful praise.
God bless,
