just a set of random thoughts

January 4, 2018

 Quill strokes across parchment lined
coagulate into words, then lines
as they spill from the writers mind.
Are they filled with consequence
from the vaults of a fertile mind.
Or merely confused utterences
of a lost and jumbled kind.

Their meaning to the reader
is found within his own minds eye
be there value null or higher.
Even rantings have merit
to those who find an inner fire.
The writer does write as he will
readers, we hope never tire.

“Even rantings have merit/to those who find an inner fire.”. Having been away from Authors Den for five or six years, I am enjoying coming across names of writers I enjoyed those years back, and your name is one of those. It makes me happy to see the people whose creativity and gift of words I valued…are still here. Lots has happened in these past two years. One happening I am grateful for is being back to learn what everyone has been writing about. I hope to be a ‘reader who never tires.’. Thank you for sharing, it matters. ~~ djl

Great thoughts, Budd; they don't sound so random.
Thank you for sharing them with us here in the Den.

Some down to earth logic and reason in your analogy of a poet. Yes, Their meaning to the reader is found within his own minds eye. To write with a slightly oblique usage of words is to allow the reader to find his or her connection to hisself or herself. As you know, I much appreciate this approach. Excellent write, Bud.

WONDERFUL THOUGHTS YOU'VE SHARED, BUD. FOR WHO BUT GOD KNOWS WHY WE PICK UP THE PEN WHEN WE DO...IS IT NOT 'HE' WHO INSPIRES EVERY WORD? WE ARE NOT OVERFLOWING ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES INSPIRATIONS 'SEEP' THROUGH TUNNELS OF CONFUSION, TROUBLES AND UNCERTAINTIES. BUT WHEN WE HAVE LIFTED THE PEN FROM THE PAPER, A MESSAGE IS THERE. AND IT IS IN SUCH TIMES THAT WE ARE REMINDED; SOMEONE SO MUCH GREATER THAN US IS REALLY THE AUTHOR, WE ARE MERELY HIS INSTRUMENTS. REMEMBER... 'NOTHING', ABSOLUTELY 'NOTHING' A POET WRITES IS TIRING, THERE IS A 'PURPOSE, FOR EVERY LINE...SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE 'IS' OR 'WILL BE' NURTURED AND ENCOURAGED. THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I often find it disappointing that friends and family just don't get (nor care) what I express in my verses. That is my life flowing there. You made me ponder, Budd. Thank you. Love and peace,

Your words are very clear and consoling for those who don't write clearly may still have some inner wish to reveal, yet can't express it well.

I like the lines, "as they spill from the writers' (or writer's) mind," and "is found within her own mind's eye." Except, they mean nearly the same thing and failed to use an apostrophe to illustrate possession. ;-)

I love, "his own minds eye". That's the way to see everything and find that "inner fire.". The first three lines are so cool!

Love ya!

you've looked into the process, the magic of which is beyond explanations. however, as John said below, 'when your heart meets your heart, . . Bang! . . then the Muse has done her job.' I like them both. Cheers, alex

I agree. I like it. We strive to say what our hearts feel. Sometimes the translation works.

You said it perfectly, and those last 2 lines summed it up wonderfully.

They will "never tire" of the likes of this measured, sober, perceptive verse scheme. It's amazing what we poets don't know about what we think we know. We pour out our hearts and write, but it's all up to the reader. If heart meets heart, then the Muse has done her job.

Amazing how we interpret the writer's words each in our own special way. Still the words remain fixed engraved with the writers soul breath upon them, I have enjoyed your poetry this evening dear Budd.
