just a thought as I was going to work today, after the base had a two hour delay in opening..lol

Crystal icy tendrils cover and hang
from sepia frozen appendages
to dormant umber ghostly setinels
while mother's tears still fall as frigid peas.
As i'm slogging along from hearth and home
down these treacherous winding thuroughfares
to fulfill my everyday drudgery
so the pitances will fill coffers still.
I pass by these forests in winter's garb
into fields of beige and brown dead fallen grains
where dingy white still blankets all that was
and shadows keep it from melting away.
the solitary warmth and comfort be
that after repeating this dreary path
i'll come back again to the loving care
of she that blesses my life as my wife.
On tomorrow morn once again i'll go
and then return through this winter sojourn
until this cold season of drab grey days
succombs to springtime warmth and flowers bloom.
ISN'T IT WONDERFUL HOW THE DRUDGERY OF EVERYDAY WINTER LIVING CAN BRING THOUGHTS WHICH ARE THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE? THESE THOUGHTS FLOW INTO OUR 'SO-OVER-IT' SPIRITS MAKING THE ANTICIPATED BLESSING OF LOVE'S WARM, WAITING ARMS EVEN MORE APPRECIATED. IT EVEN STARTS ONE TO THINKING ABOUT SPRINGTIME'S WARMTH AND BLOOMING FLOWERS...RIGHT THERE...IN THE MIDST OF ALL THAT COLD. WOW..WHAT MARVELOUS THOUGHTS 'WINTER'S MELANCHOLY' CAN PRODUCE, IT'S AMAZING! BY DESIGN? THANKS FOR SHARING, BUDD, WELL DONE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
The winter season is always melancholy....Especially with early sunsets & darkness, along with often cloudy days that bring chilling winds and rain, snow & ice, sometimes all in one gigantic storm....Well written....
Where can I begin? I love everything about this poem, Budd. I love the subject, the word choices, the way it makes me see everything so clearly, the cadence and how it chugs along. The feeling it manages very well to convey...it is kind of comforting- very "in the moment" and yet very hopeful of good changes to come.
Thanks for writing this one, I enjoyed it VERY much!
I love your wording as you describe the miserable drudgery of workaday routine, dragged down even more by the dregs of winter no longer enchanting like before Christmas. Of course, it's always great at times like this to return to a hearth and home so well prepared to greet you like a wife at the door and hot food being prepared smelling so great.
If you still do this every day, I applaud you for still being able to write those books with the free time that she gives you.
You made me wistfully think of those redbud, forsythia, and azalea blooms that burst from the hills against the jade green background of new growth in the early spring. Making driving to and from work so wonderful with its colorful freshness. I miss those. I miss those West Virginia hills.
it seems she is good, . . but still is not as good as a wife ;)) what is good in the cold season is that the warmest springtime is ahead. BTW, the Spring Festival in China starts on Feb. 16 with a new moon - the universe blesses it. Cheers, alex
