Let's raise our cups like we used to do
For old friends, romance, and for me and you.
Those days are gone, and I watched them fade away.
Now there is no one else to stand with, but I'm okay.
And I remember when we would sing the same songs;
The ones that everybody knew.
Held tunes about old lovers and the pain they left us,
But there was nothing else to do.
Sometimes I can hear them in a drunken slur
Screaming about what we should do.
All these dreams just start to fall apart,
But there was love; and we had fun.(So where were you?)
Let's raise our glasses like we used to do;
Talk about lost friends, and about me and you;
Those things we did so long ago,
All those hideouts that we knew.
I want you to know that I don't hate you anymore;
What is there left to say?
It's just too much emotion for me to show,
And I'm too tired to scream.
So what do you want from me these days?
I heard that everyone moved away;
Empty pages floating in the wind;
It's the same ending we all knew.
I am thankful for the years we had,
And all the people that we knew.
I still sing the same old songs;
Those same old lovers in the dark.
These three years of yesterdays,
Well they've shown me a thing or two.
So let's raise our glasses like we used to do
For lost friends, romance, and for me and you.
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
day.
