This dream of you still haunts me
Like a demon in the night.
These visions of laughter,
Happiness filled with dread.
In those yesterdays it seemed as if
Our lives were destined for pleasure,
But fate it turned out
Has its own desires;
And pain its only treasure.
I think of you,
Though the years go by,
As if you still walk beside me.
Our paths parted ways
With the decisions we made,
But the questions
Still linger in the breeze.
Had it been me instead of you
That had agreed to the dance;
Would the Sun lose its glory,
And the stars fail to shine
So brightly in your life's story?
Now I walk those same roads,
And hear the same tales;
Of those who attend the Ball.
Those are the nights
That I know you will call,
And whisper the same lament.
You still carry the playful smirk,
and still gaze at me with joyful eyes;
That is why I sing my songs about
This dream of you that haunts me.
Dreams are the joy and the torment of most people, and they are also a window on the soul. They tell us things we don't know, whether we want to know or not. I have written a lot of dreams poems over the years, so I wish you luck with exorcising your demons.
