What if we had
slipped through the cracks?
If time had proceeded or receded
and space had not allowed us
to encounter its perfect rhythm?
Would you forever be in my heart
and would my longing destroy my spirit?
Would your life be less than good yet accepted
through spoken commitment?
So many loves missed by turning
the wrong corner
traveling down a one way street into
a life of remorse where nothing is wrong
yet nothing is right and emptiness as a cavern
is never filled.
Life is relived with you
because you were there.
You were on the edge of proceeding,
minutes away from settling
when time stopped
and in the blink of an eye
made a place for us to enter.
Our time in this world is but the blink of an eye. And to be gifted with the presence of one who will "forever be in my heart" is to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Yes, an unrequited yearning can destroy our spirit. And so it is that when we discover a moment "when time stopped and in the blink of an eye made a place for us to enter," we are privileged to taste heaven on earth.
My great pleasure in life now is with my wife of fifty-five years when we are able to relive and share so many special moments together "because you were there." Nothing in my life can match the magic of now.
And yet someday it will be gone in "The Blink of an Eye." But I know that this is not the end, only the beginning. The best is yet to come!
My dear Janet you capture reality and tease us with "what might have been."
The Blink of an Eye stops us in our tracks and makes us take stock of what is and why. For now, enjoy life. It is as it was meant to be.
And all this started with your textbook question, "What if?"
A brilliant sharing of life's miraculous turnings. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem -- it deserved several readings as a matter of fact. So many truths here, Janet. I do appreciate your poetry.
Love,
CJ
FANTASTIC!!!!!! Wish I wrote it...but I couldn't have!!! OOOoooo, one of your best, Janet and I LUV this slightly different voice for you. It suits you well. Love the concepts expressed here... reminds me of the film: Sliding Doors. Rapturous applause here, TY Kate xx Easter Blessings, too! :)) xx

Same way I feel about old Dottering (said lovingly) Dottie. I daresay that she probably saved my life, becasue at the time we met I really didn't think much of it.
Luckily you and Ed didn't "slip through the cracks"....you found each other and will enjoy the happiness for years to come. Some people spend their entire lives living WITHOUT that joy - I'm so happy you found it. Nice reflective poem!
This is in depth thinking and in tune with a lot of lovers toughts at one point in their relationships or another. Very well expressed and a great capture of what you wanted to say. On the personal side I learned a long time ago to avoid the "what if" game, it can only drive one mad...
Janet, this is one of your best! Sometime it all comes together ,and this is one of those times, you crafted a perfect poem! The first and last verses are exquisite!I'm so glad you both recognized the signals.
this is so wonderful! It makes me think of my relationship with my love...only I intentionally walked away for about 5 years. I don't know which would be worse, missing love unintentionally or purposefully walking away from it.
A wonderful Janet

Wow, this presents a breathtaking nexus of possibility. Loved it! Even though my acute awareness of the "if" is from having watched another walk away from it. Good to know there are others who caught the moment by the tail. Thanks for this!
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.
