OLD FASHION FAMILY

Don't ask what your parents can do for you, but what you can do for your parents.

Your parents always gave you their love, respect and cared for you as babies, as children and often did without to make sure you had everything you needed in life.

In an Old Fashion Family, mothers and grandmothers were always put in a place of honor in the home, they never ever felt alone.

Treated always with much love and respect, never ever with neglect.

As children, we were there for them, helping in every way to make their lives easier day by day, in our own special ways.

Older childrens visits came regularly, and always bringing with them their families, enjoying special times with aging moms and dads, realizing it was the only parents they would ever have.

No complaints, not a frown, helping hands all round, while they mowed lawns and cleaned the grounds.

Why have the decades changed, Why are our children not the same, as way back in the OLD FASHION DAYS?

Always remember they are not here forever, one day they will be gone, believe it, that won't take long.  Time passes us by quicker than a song.

Mothers, don't give your opinions, they are not allowed, even though as you look around, you can see what's going down, don't try to help, its not ok, you mustn't step on any toes today.

It seems to have slipped away, a lot of the love is taken for granted, and no one wants to bother going out of their way, to help and give support as was given with love in the OLD FASHION DAYS.

Not in our family. I just got through talking to my tenant about how my mother has consistently refused help that she desperately needs while claiming that she is lonely. She is having a very hard time leaving the independence she has always had up until three mini strokes a year and a half ago set her life on a different course that she's still quite unable to accept. My three brothers and sister are right there to help as soon as she decides. Unfortunately, we may have to decide for her, because it's her own unwillingness to accept our help that gets in the way of her being happier.

By the way, four of us are far-flung, three over 500 miles away, making it difficult to see her all the time. If she moved in with any of us (she could), she would leave what few friends she still has and the other siblings would find it difficult (like I do) to get to see her.
